Black Lives Are Beloved: A Student Workshop in Partnership with USD’s University Ministry
The killing of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade earlier this year – as well as too many other Black people to name in recent years – has galvanized outrage, mourning, soul searching and action. These tragedies, coupled with the ongoing, disproportionate suffering caused by the coronavirus on Black and Brown communities, raise profound questions of meaning, sin, justice, redemption and hope. This workshop offers the opportunity to reflect on and pray about these and other recent events as well as support and challenge participants in putting their faith into action through intentional anti-racist actions.
Purpose: Designed primarily for white students, this workshop is intended to build racial stamina – the ability to reflect critically and engage meaningfully in constructive conversations about race; provide participating students the chance to reflect on race, racism and white supremacy through a lens of faith; and encourage students to take anti-racist action.
